Why do I need to use Pro Hanging Systems for picture hanging? Why not just put hooks in the wall?
- You can fit hooks onto the wall if you like, but then if you later want to change the picture or it’s location, you are left with an unsightly hook or hole in the wall. This damage to the wall then gets magnified if you hang a collection of pictures and want to add or delete from the group as there are more hooks cluttering the wall space. Inevitably, the next picture you want to hang is never quite the same as the first and requires another hook close to, but not quite in the same hole, as the previous picture. You can get the idea here I’m sure.
How many picture hanging tracks will I need?
- Just one. That’s what we love about this system. It’s simple.
How are the tracks fixed to the wall?
- They are fixed with screws to the wall, but these screws are hidden behind the track. Once the track is installed, you can move your pictures around to your hearts content, but you will never have to change the location of the track.
What colours do the rails come in?
- The rails are available in three different colours: matt white, gloss off-white or brushed aluminum.
How many pictures can I hang off one rail?
- Depending on the wall surface (plaster or masonry) the rail can hold from 30 to 50 kgs per metre, so how many pictures would depend on how long the rail is and how big the pictures are. But the general answer to that is quite a few.
What if I need extra hangers (cable) or more hooks?

Do the hangers (cable) come in different colours?
- The cable is available in two finishes – clear nylon and stainless steel.
How do I know what is the best height to use when hanging pictures?
- This is the million dollar question and an area of expertise that some people spend many years studying. The ultimate height for a picture depends on many different factors, including the picture itself and the intended viewers of it. Other things to consider include the size and colour of the picture, what the picture is of, the light in the room in which it’s hung, the height of the person who’s viewing it and what other features are nearby. These are just a few of the things which Ian takes in to consideration when advising or curating collections to be hung.
How do I know what items to group together?
- Again this is a skill in itself and again it depends on the art works being displayed. They can be grouped by colour, content, or size to name just a few. It is the expert knowledge that is the basis behind pro hanging systems which enables us to curate collections as they would be in leading international art galleries.
